I love D.C.!

The long weekend in summary --

Thursday: Slept until 1 p.m., cooked a little with Aunt Diane, went to Aunt Ellie's where they had cooked even more (something about a happy refridgerator at Aunt Ellie's, because normally its contents are limited to mustard apparently), saw my Mom's first cousins Lori and Todd, and Lori's new husband and their new baby (who was the quietest baby ever! 4 hours of dinner, and not a peep was to be heard except when all the grown-ups made fools of themselves trying to get him to do his "So Big" trick.). Yum yum, gobble gobble.

Friday: Attempted to go to the Museum of the American Indian (the newest Smithsonian), but we were thwarted by holiday crowds. Ended up window shopping on Dupont Circle and salivating in Kramerbooks (my favorite bookstore ever!). Ice skating in the sculture gardens. Dinner was Ethiopian, very authentic (I judge this by the fact that we were the only English speakers in the resteraunt - presumably everyone else was speaking Ethiopian). And then we saw Finding Neverland, which was so-so. A little slow even though I love Peter Pan!

Saturday: Off to the Dulles hanger of the Air and Space Museum. All by myself, because apparently to non-rocket scientists, wondering around the coolest aircraft and spacecraft ever was a fate worse then death. More details later, but it rocked. The best part was a little girl (maybe 4 years old) standing in front of the Enterprise declaring that she wanted to be an astronaut when she grew up. All hope isn't lost! If only NASA could do as good a job as the Air and Space Museum at inspiring youth. Afterwards, met up with Melissa and Sharon (and their mom, stepdad and brother who were all in town visiting and doing chores in Sharon's new house). Went to see National Treasure (fun movie) and then had pizza.

Sunday: Made it to the Museum of the American Indian with Aunt Diane. The museum was gorgeous, but slightly crowded as the afternoon went on. Explored U St(well, a little, before I got sick of shopping and tired), which is the "New" Adams Morgan, Adams Morgan being the "New" Dupont Circle. Then vegged out, read, watched t.v., did laundry.

And this morning I headed home. Now I'm at work.

I have this legacy code that I am trying to make compile. It has 74 errors and 4 warnings. Hopefully they are at least related. The twin's mother (a computer programmer currently working on a jet engine contract) was trying to figure out the difference between her job and mine, it was hard to find a distinction. Which leads me to my job philosophizing of the week...

I do way too much complaining about my job and about Houston. I've decided there is no way I'm going to stop complaining about Houston, but I'm going to try to fix my attitude about my job. I like my job, or at least, the idea of my job. I just don't like being bored. My relatives kept asking me about my hours and my workload -- expecting, as an ambitious young person, that I would be putting the 60+ hours a week in that young lawyers and doctors do. They are shocked and dismayed to hear that I can barely find 40 hours of things to occupy my time in a week. And since no one has sorted out when exactly I'm going to move the FDO office (except for some nebulous time in 2005), I have to start figuring out some new and innovative ways to entertain myself exactly where I am. So, I shall fix the boredom. I will let you know how it turns out.
